Il Buco – Love Is Everywhere!
Il Buco has always been written up as a great go-to restaurant in NYC. Located on Bond Street near Lafayette Street, it is a favorite of critics and foodies alike. So we were all on board when a Magpie suggested we check it out. We arrived at about 8:30 on a Saturday night, and the place was already packed. We were immediately impressed by the decor, as it was both romantic and trendy at the same time. Though we were seated at a communal table, it was separated by large flower pots, so it was very intimate and felt like our own table. The menu changes all the time, and that’s what makes this place truly special. It’s such a great menu too — traditional Italian with a twist. We ordered the caesar salad “cavolonero” — which was raw Tuscan black kale “salad” tossed with homemade croutons and shaved parmagiana – it was a perfect first course for our meal.
We then split a Magpie favorite, chicken milanese, but here it’s prepared with peaches and pine nuts, which we thought made it different and refreshing.
But the absolute best part of the meal was the lasagna. It was one of the tastiest dishes we’ve had in NYC ( and Lord knows we’ve had quite a lot!). It was made with pork, veal and bison ragu, and homemade ricotta cheese. It literally melts in your mouth!
Il Buco is a great date place or a great spot to catch up with good friends. The ambiance, charm, and above all, the care and attention given to each dish, have now made all the Magpies (moi included) devoted fans. We not only recommend it – we insist you go! We would’ve given Il Buco the “I” on our list of Alphabests, if only a Magpie had suggested we dine there sooner (before we gave the “I” to Inoteca!)!! We all loved Il Buco and we’re quite sure you’re gonna love it too!
