Blow Salon: For A Blowout That Doesn’t Blow

There’s nothing like a good blowout to make you feel fab before an evening out (we wrote about our love of salon blowouts here). So recently, when our hair was looking pretty unruly, we decided to give Blow a chance. There are two NYC locations of this blowout-only salon: the original, in the Meatpacking District, and one on Lexington Avenue near 64th Street. A loyal Magpie reader suggested we check out Cheryl and Vadim at the Upper East Side location to get a bouncy blowout makeover. We booked the Friday night appointments a day in advance, and were thrilled when both stylists had availability. We were a bit skeptical when we pulled up, since the salon is located on the second floor and you have to walk up a really creepy staircase to get to it. But once you walk inside the salon, you can instantly tell these pros know what they’re doing. Our stylists asked us how we wanted to look (waves at the bottom? curls? sleek and straight?), and then, in about 45 minutes, we emerged with Pantene commercial-worthy locks (we’re not exaggerating)! The style stayed in place all night (and even into the next few days)! And for a reasonable $50 or $60 (depending on length), we think the price was definitely worth it. The compliments we received all night made us want to immediately book our next appointments. Note – Vadim only works on Fridays and Saturdays – just don’t steal our next appointment with him!
