Ruby et Violette – For Cookies You’ll Never Forget

Our regular Magpie readers know how obsessed we are with finding the perfect chocolate chip cookie. We’ve written about some of our favorites here and here. Recently, one loyal reader suggested we check out Ruby et Violette on 50th Street near 10th Avenue, a petite French bakery that (OMD! – Oh Mon Dieu!) we had never even heard of. He called the place a “hidden gem” – a place we Magpies had to see for ourselves. The place is located on the most random street in NYC (it’s the only storefront on a mostly residential block) – but when we sampled the cookies, it was love at first bite!

Since there was such a good deal on the cookies (three for $6), we ordered a dozen! We had trouble narrowing down the choices – since they all looked and smelled so good…

…but we eventually decided on the peanut butter chocolate chip; the candy jar (made with several types of candy, including Heath Bar and Butterfinger); a dark chocolate cookie with a cream cheese center; an apple pie cookie; a S’mores cookie; and last, but definitely not least, the “Breakup” cookie – which is an oatmeal cookie with dark chocolate, caramel, peanut butter and a little bit of sea salt. Just the picture of our cookies makes our mouth water!

They were all ridiculously delicious. And since they were on the small side, we didn’t feel bad sampling (ok, polishing off) the entire dozen! The unanimous favorite was the S’mores cookie, which had huge chunks of graham cracker inside. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love S’mores!? Even though it’s a bit of a trek to get to from the East Side (if you live or work on the West side…lucky you!),  it’s definitely worth the visit for these delectable cookies. We promise, your tummy will thank you for it!
